The Dunesteef Audio Fiction Magazine (podcasts)
The Best Stories in Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror and Other Genres

The Dunesteef is moderately sorry to bring you the first in its Lost Episode Trilogy.

In Rick Kennett's "Out of the Storm" -- They found the H.M.A.S. Barrinji damaged and abandoned floating out of a storm that had sunk three other ships.  The Barrinji really should have sunk as well, but for some reason, she's a lucky ship.  Perhaps too lucky.

Also, Big and Rish swap boating experiences, talk about nautical jargon, ghost ships, the Australian problem, the Drabblecast, and Frood the Buffer.

Special thanks Marshal Latham for producing today's story, and to Cameron Horsburgh, Simon Dooley, Patrick Dwyer, Dylan Boyd, Ben Maclain, and Julian Ramundi for lending their voices to today's episode.

When Ben is accosted by a crazy man insisting that Ben is the heir to a far-off, magical land, he shrugs it off as the sort of thing you experience riding public transit in Los Angeles (of course, this could just be Rish's experience talking).  But when another stranger claims the same thing, he begins to worry.

Afterward, Big and Rish talk about being "The Chosen One," which devolves into superhero talk.  Also, they make their listeners an offer that hopefully some won't refuse, and discover that everybody wants a bosom for a pillow.

Special thanks Clay Dugger for producing today's story, and to R.E. Chambliss, Kenn Crawford, Andy Kjar, Lynn Boyd and Clay Dugger for lending their voices to today's episode.

Instead of your normal Dunesteef this week, we bring you a special episode of "That Gets My Goat," Big and Rish's secondary podcast.  After an explanation and a question for the audience, Rish complains about the trailer for an upcoming Liam Neeson movie, then complains about movies in general.

Happy Halloween, boys and ghouls.  It's a bonus episode for the holiday season!

A father is awakened by the frightened cries of his child. Will he allay the boy's fears and get a little sleep?

Afterward, Big and Rish talk about the failed initial intention of this story, and give a sort of state of the podcast address. If you're good, there will be no singing.

Oh, and by the way, it's coming down to the wire.  Finish up those OSSE Stories.  We can't wait to see them.

Special thanks to Jason Kivela for today's episode art.

Mike Stone (who hates 3-D even more than we do) brings us “The Devil’s Fauna.” When Edward Dempster-Smythe goes out hunting, he discovers that on this particular day, he is not quite as high up on the food chain as he imagined.

Big and Rish talk a bit about the fear of losing control of one’s free will and/or body. They’re pretty silly this episode, so be warned.

And don’t forget, where stalks the Reaper, there follows the corby.

Also, the October Scary Story Event is going on now. There’s still time to at least write a flash story.

Special thanks to Barry Northern and R.E. Chambliss for lending their voices to today’s story.

In a prequel to CHEMO: The Town Of Golden Woods, there's been a riot at the prison, but it's not like any riot you've ever seen before.  It's Agent Joseph's first mission with CHEMO and his team of rookies will be tested to its limits.

Also Big and Rish talk about different kinds of zombies, experiences with the military, and we get the return of one of your favorite features of yesteryear.  Don't miss it!

Don't forget that the October Scary Story Event is going on now.  You really ought to get started.

Special thanks to Bryan Lincoln for producing this week's episode, and to Lizanne Herd, Nicole Suddeth, Ray Saltrelli, Bryan Lincoln and Buchis and Ghomis of the A.I.E. Raid Wrapup podcast for lending their voices to today's story.

When a father makes up a ghost story to scare his child out of the bad habit of tattling, something strange happens.  How much can belief alter reality?

Afterward, Big and Rish talk about the power of belief, both positive and negative.  But mostly negative.  Also, Rish tells the story of his uncle's new house . . . a house with a history.

Please keep in mind that the October Scary Story Event is in full swing your partner.  It's not too late to think about someday starting!

Special thanks to Juliet Bowler and Rich Girardi for lending their voices to today's story.

The Hard Years are over.  When the army comes to town and reestablishes civilization, Corey is left wondering where he fits in the new world, and what his town's survival might cost.

Afterward, Big and Rish talk a bit about the end of the world, and the kinds of stories that can be told about it.  Plus, Big Anklevich compares dieting to a nuclear holocaust.

Special thanks to Josh Roseman, Juliet Bowler, and Rich Girardi for lending their voices to today's story.

When a little boy goes missing in rural Missouri, a low-level newspaper reporter heads to the woods to cover the story.  But there's more going on than he bargained for, and this isn't the first child to disappear in that area.

Also, Rish and Big talk about fear of the unknown, sound effects, and leaving things to the imagination.

Special thanks to Josh Roseman, Julie Hoverson, Lizanne Herd, Juliet Bowler, and Rich Girardi for lending their voices to today's story.

Adel arrived at a hospice, and seemed to be like any ordinary patient, but she endlessly tried to flee, and constantly muttered in German about needing to verwandeln.  What could she mean?

Also, Big talks a bit about Dean Wesley Smith's "Killing The Sacred Cows Of Publishing," and Rish argues with him about them.  Then, they play a round of "Two Truths & A Lie," with a book by Kevin David Anderson hanging in the balance.

Warning: Some of Rish Outfield's statements in this episode are even more (deliberately?) incendiary than usual.  Listen with a grain of salt handy.

Special thanks to Lizanne Herd for producing and narrating today's story, and to Julie Hoverson for lending her voice.
